Community-Led Approach

Community-Led. Future-Focused.

SIDEC is dedicated to empowering communities through sustainable development initiatives that enhance livelihoods, promote gender equity and protect the environment.

Laikipia is a county of contrasts: fertile smallholdings and dryland rangelands, thriving conservancies and households stretched by drought and rising costs. SIDEC exists to make sure the people most affected by those pressures (women, young people and marginalised groups) are the ones who design and lead the response.

Our approach is deliberately practical. We start with the groups that already exist in a community, build their capacity, connect them to markets, services and county structures, and then step back so local leadership carries the work forward.

Leadership & governance

Where we work

Women-led and accountable

Across Laikipia County

SIDEC is proudly women-led, with a diverse leadership team committed to advancing gender equity and community-driven development. Our governance structure is designed for accountability and participatory decision-making, with community representatives involved in setting priorities and reviewing progress.

SIDEC operates across Laikipia County, with an office positioned to serve both rural and urban communities. Programmes are delivered in partnership with local groups so that reach extends well beyond where our team is based.
